Mayor Carlos (BA COMMUNICATIONS)
Somewhere last year, just at the eve of Semester exams, Ghanaian Students at the various Public University Students were slapped at the face with A STRIKE ACTION staged by University Teachers Association of Ghana, UTAG amidst Post Covid_19 pandemic.
It is interesting to note, most lectures were held online if not all. Seldomly would you see in person lectures at the lecture halls of these Public Universities yet the semester ended and they had to sit for exams. I don’t really have an issue with the exams.
However, there are few questions bothering me and I believe it is about time we ask our lecturers who are on strike once again some few questions;
- In their own estimation and per the experience garnered so far, can they beat their chest to say, their output as lecturers they had best of lecturing time?
- Can they tell us, their students really acquired the knowledge they were expected of during the online season?
- As lecturers, and an association, where is their research report on the impact of COVID_19 on lecturers and Students?
- What is their strategic plan, should the pandemic strike (I hear you say, God Forbid) again to improve on teaching and learning?
- Can I challenge our Lecturers and put it to them, the way students use to acquire knowledge through effective in-person lectures as it has been the norm among many Ghanaian Students is not the sam?
- In view of point 5, should any organization or even government decides to conduct examination to access students, on the topics these lecturers claim they covered via online, many students will FAIL HEAVILY?
Let me leave the rest of the last 4 questions for another day.
I would humbly want my fellow students who are are mostly affected by this strike action to begin to take a second look at the way we all appear to be sitting unconcerned and helpless to see these lecturers and other stakeholders put our future and skills in jeopardy.
I shall return!
